Infographic: The Rise of Women in Tech
As a female business owner, this infographic from MBAonline certainly caught my eye. Having been in the Chicago online marketing industry for over 10 years, I have always been surprised by the lack of females around me. Many women I’ve worked with in the past tended towards more of the account management roles. While I won’t even pretend to know or explain away why this pattern emerged but I am certainly glad to see a positive shift in the numbers of my female peers…as incremental as that may be.
Even though only 8% of venture-backed startups have female leaders the number of women in IT has jumped by more than 28% from 2011 to 2012.
…There are some very impressive women working in technology, such as Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg. However, women still only make up just 25% of the workforce in STEM — that is, science, technology, engineering and mathematics — careers. — Zoe Fox
